November 3: Know this: you make and unmake yourself

From James Allen's “James Allen’s Book of Meditations for Every Day in the Year” (1913), in gently modernised English. Read it, then carry the thought with you today.

Text of the meditation

Know this: you make and unmake yourself. Doubt, anxiety and worry are unsubstantial shades in the underworld of self, and will no longer trouble anyone who climbs the serene heights of their soul. Grief, too, will be forever dispelled by whoever comprehends the Law of their being.

One who comprehends it will find the Supreme Law of Life, and will find that it is Love, imperishable Love. They will become one with Love, and, loving all, with a mind freed from all hatred and folly, they will receive the invincible protection that Love affords.

Claiming nothing, they will suffer no loss; seeking no pleasure, they will find no grief; and employing all their powers as instruments of service, they will forever live in the highest state of blessedness and bliss. You are a slave if you prefer to be; you are a master if you will make yourself one.
